Aquila Gibbons (she/her)

Aquila discovered her love of yoga initially because she was a dancer. At first she came to the practice from a lens of self improvement to gain more flexibility and lung endurance. She attended classes with her mother, and it became a special weekly ritual. She soon realized the ways in which she would benefit from the practice were not at all to do with the physical body. Yoga became a space in which she could move and connect with her mind in a more playful and accepting container. It was an hour a day to quiet the inner voices of perfectionism and pressure while still nourishing her body with the satisfaction of the physical practice. When Aquila graduated from high school she made the move from Nova Scotia to Boston to study dance at the Boston Conservatory. She continued her yoga practice throughout college at Yogaworks frequenting classes with Jess Ray, Izzy VanHall, Caitlyn Graham Visconte, Cara Gilman and Renee LeBlanc. After graduating with. Bachelor of Fine Arts in Contemporary Dance Performance in 2019, she went on to live in Bermuda teaching at the Jackson's School of Performing Arts. In 2020 she moved to Porto Alegre to teach English and obtained her 200 hour YTT through My Vinyasa Practice with their virtual teacher training. In 2022 Aquila relocated back to Boston and began as a work study for Back Bay Yoga Union before becoming part of the teaching roster. In Aquila's class you can expect a creative and rigorous sequence that familiarizes you with movement patterns and transitions before building toward more options for exploration. She structures her classes with the origin of her yoga practice in mind, striving to offer classes that many generations can perform and feel empowered. Offering challenges in tandem with accessibility and inviting practitioners to choose the variation that best suits them.
