Movement has been central to my life starting with ballet and jazz dance as a child evolving into cheerleading as a teenager and later studying folkloric dance traditions from Brazil and Haiti during college. After college, I continued to study dance at the Dance Complex and Green Street Studios in Cambridge. However, a knee injury brought me to the mat where I discovered the healing qualities of yoga which became my primary form of movement for over 20 years.
Receiving my 200-hour certification at JP Centre Yoga in 2020 personally brought into focus a need to rest and recover from being conditioned to overwork. The process of attaining the Level I Tantra Meditation Teaching Certification facilitated by Tracee Stanley provided the container for me to rest physically and mentally. I continued to study with Tracee, in partnership with Dr. Chanti Tacoronte-Perez, to become certified as a Yoga Nidra guide where I learned different yogic methods of attaining deep rest to awaken to your true essence. These tools were reinforced in the Himalayan Institute’s 300-hour Advanced Yoga Teacher certification that placed an emphasis on pausing during a yoga sequence to become aware of the subtle energy within the body as well facilitate savasana (the final rest pose) through providing guided relaxation techniques.
As a result, I create space in my classes to pause and notice what you feel, utilize props to support the body, and end with guided relaxation. It is my goal to balance strength with mindful, gentle and nourishing practices to reinforce that you are enough and that you are worthy of rest.
