Yoga 101 and the LYT Method

  • Boston Yoga Union - Coolidge Corner 1297 Beacon Street Brookline, MA, 02446 United States (map)

We all want to enjoy healthy functional movements throughout our life.

Movements like bending over to pick something up, pulling something down from a high shelf, or simply sitting down and standing up. Our yoga practice can support functional movement both on and off the mat. In this two hour workshop we will break down the foundations of an empowered and safe yoga practice to keep you moving and grooving for years to come. This includes:

  • What is Yoga? ~ a brief exploration of what yoga is to you, brief history of yoga

  • Key movement concepts for a safe yoga practice

  • Breathing and its role in yoga

  • How to use yoga props

  • Modifications, developmental movements, and layered sequencing to empower you to choose the best posture in any given yoga class

  • How meditation and intention can amplify your practice

In this FUNctional approach to Yoga 101 we will use the LYT Yoga method to improve brain to muscle function, reinforce common yoga poses, breathing techniques, balance, and improve proprioception (where your body is in space). The LYT Yoga Method was developed by physical therapist Lara Heimann.

Please come prepared with a notebook, pen, and one small item you hold dear. Examples include: a stone, statue, coin, jewelry, picture.

Dates / Location:

  • Sunday, March 30 at 1:00-3:00PM in Coolidge Corner

  • Sunday, April 6 at 2:00-4:00PM in Back Bay

About Your Teacher

Nikki has been a certified yoga instructor for over 11 years and a certified LYT instructor for 3 years.

I am originally from Atlanta and have been teaching yoga since 2012, after earning my first 200-hour vinyasa training in New York. In the hunt for day-to-day happiness, I began my journey as a yoga teacher in the hopes that teaching could be my 'day job' while I pursued my acting career. However, yoga swept me off my feet and led me to instead pursue a new career that allowed me to help others and also find my own healing journey along the way. Since then, I have led teacher trainings, created and led mentorship programs for existing instructors, and served as the Yoga Director of YogaSpark Studio located in NYC and Westchester. I have also taught Yoga in Bryant Park and can be found on the ClassPass Digital platform as well as YogaSpark Digital.

I am proud to also be a LYT Yoga Method certified instructor, a form of vinyasa yoga created by physical therapy Lara Heimann and focuses on the way in which our movement patterns impact our minds and spirits.

I have studied with Nikki Costello, Sadie Nardini, Sam Chase, and have my certification to teach kids yoga.
